Like Jesus, many early Christians had, of course, been born as Jews. If you look closely enough you can still find the fingerprints of the Jewish liturgy throughout all Christian ritual — in the rites and offices of the mass, even in the words themselves.
Two words that passed directly from Hebrew into Latin are ‘alleluia’ and ‘amen’ — it is not possible to celebrate a mass without them. In alleluia amen these two words serve as the complete text and subject of the piece.
